Before joining Hillwood International Energy (HIE), Smith served in senior management positions for Chevron Corporation for 24 years.  He led operations and business development in Russia and prior to that in Thailand.  In addition, he has held Merger & Acquisition, Exploration, Production and business development positions around the world.   In Moscow, Smith served as chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia.  He has a PhD in Economic Geology from Penn State University.  Smith is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the World Affairs Council, and the Dallas Council on Foreign Affairs.
