New shops add to Dallas destinations for home furnishings

There’s a certain phrase in this city that is considered the highest compliment around: “Wow, it’s like you’re not even in Dallas.” This just has to change.

With their infusion of high style and funky finds, new shopping destinations for home furnishings and accessories could lead Dallasites to coin a new phrase: “Ooh, that looks like it belongs in Dallas.” And it would be the highest possible praise.

An import from Austin, Mercury Design Studio finds discarded funky, mod furnishings from the 1960s and ’70s and repurposes them with lacquer finishes or fabulous geometric textiles. The result: Standout pieces that steal the show in any room. Since owner Steve Shuck is always on the hunt, inventory constantly changes, but now showing is a classic grandma bentwood rocking chair in chrome and white python ($2,450). Also available: coffee-table books (Taschen’s Valentino limited edition in a red silk case, $1,000, for one); candles, candleholders, paper goods and pillows (Rani Arabella Italian cashmere Love pillow, $285), along with a nice selection of Jonathan Adler pottery (animal salt and pepper shakers, $32). Check back in the spring for an expanded inventory including bedding, linens and tabletop goods.
