DALLAS — In preparation for the fall 2006 launch of Victory Media Network®, the first outdoor digital “gallery” in the world, Dallas’ Victory Park district has announced the Victory Arts program with a call for digital art entries. The deadline to receive submissions for this juried competition is August 31, 2006. Following are the three content categories:

* Digital Art (fine art, graphic and media arts, video art, text art and mash-up);

* Digital Storytelling (digital and hand-drawn animation plus virtual environment art); and

* Short Film (fictional, documentary and journalistic).

This competition presents a unique opportunity for filmmakers, digital artists and visual storytellers to show their work in a unique, world-class outdoor venue. A total of $10,000 will be awarded, including $2,500 per content category plus an additional $2,500 grand prize. Selection of a national jury for the competition is in process. A call for entries overview with comprehensive details on the submission process, judging criteria and specifications, plus an animated rendering of Victory Media Network® can be viewed by logging onto victorymedianetwork.com.

Predicted to be the most visually and technologically sophisticated large- scale urban core development in the country, the 75-acre, $3-billion plus Victory Park project is currently redefining the landscape of Dallas and Victory Media Network® is one of numerous district elements selected or designed to be “firsts” of their kind. This unique environment for viewing and experiencing digital art and media in a dynamic format is expected to host millions of visitors per year. Noted American video artist Jennifer Steinkamp has also been commissioned to create a signature piece for the venue.

According to Kristin Gray, Director, of the Victory Media Network®, “With content slated to run 12-plus hours per day and an annual audience in the millions, artists will have an opportunity to bring their vision to a diverse audience, including the community of Dallas and Texas, in a way that a typical museum or gallery could never dream of.”

Victory Media Network® will display publicly-submitted artwork, in conjunction with other media, on 11, large-scale high resolution screens. Approximately 50% of programming will be dedicated to artworks ranging from non-narrative video displays and visual stories to short films. Victory Media Network® will be incorporated within the striking architecture of Victory Plaza, a two-building complex that will serve as the gateway to American Airlines Center.

“An extraordinary place of art and artistry, Victory Media Network® will provide opportunities for digital artists from across Texas and around the world to work and experiment with leading edge video display technology,” said Jonas Woods, president of Hillwood Capital.
