Dick’s Sporting Goods opens new distribution center in Fort Worth

Dameyon King has no trouble getting his daily step count in. At the moment, he is averaging well above the 10,000 step guide recommended by some health professionals.

“I did 7 miles one day,” he said.

As a material handler at Dick’s Sporting Goods newly opened 800,000-square-foot distribution center in south Fort Worth, King said getting the cavernous warehouse up and running has meant plenty of running for everyone.

“We’re getting there,” said A.J. Scott, operations supervisor at the center. “There are a lot of moving parts.”

Moving is the key word, as the center will eventually handle regional distribution to more than 100 Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in several states. The retailer has 10 stores in Fort Worth and 11 in Dallas, with expectations for further growth.

When fully operational, much of the moving will be accomplished by a Honeywell conveyor belt system that spiderwebs through the giant open space of the warehouse.

The next generation facility that officially opened April 20 will support the sporting goods retailer’s business in Texas, with the Fort Worth location joining the existing Dick’s nationwide distribution network that includes five other facilities. The bollards protecting the entrance to the GSR Andrade Architects-designed warehouse are in the shape of a soccer ball, a baseball, a golf ball and a basketball.

“This facility will support the rapid growth of our business, including in the state of Texas, and enable more efficient and effective flow of product to athletes whether they shop in-store or online,” said Sean Whitehouse, Dick’s senior vice president of supply chain.

At the moment, the warehouse employs about 150, but that could grow to about 300 over time, said Whitehouse. There is also room for future expansion on the site.

Texas is a key growth area for Dick’s Sporting Goods, said Whitehouse. The company recently opened a new “experiential” concept, Dick’s House of Sport at The Parks Mall at Arlington. It features multisport experiences and more customer engagement.

“There will be more of those in the area. We think it’s a great concept and we’ve received great feedback,” he said.

Dick’s also recently purchased Foot Locker, a footwear and apparel retailer.

The Dick’s distribution center will be located on an 89.5-acre site within the Risinger/35 Logistics Park, a development by AllianceTexas developer Hillwood, at Risinger Road and Old Burleson Road.

Neighbors of Dick’s include an Amazon warehouse and a U.S. distribution center for Continental Tire that will open later this year.

Both of those sites are Hillwood developments and the real estate giant, who owns and operates the massive AllianceTexas development in north Fort Worth, would like more in this part of town.

“Unfortunately, we do not have any more land at the present time,” said Bill Burton, executive vice president of marketing and development for the firm. “We hope to find an opportunity to grow.”

A report from CommercialSearch recently named the Dallas-Fort Worth area as the top market in the U.S. for the most industrial real estate space under construction at the start of 2026, with 28.8 million square feet of industrial space currently under development.

To help meet that demand, Hillwood announced April 13 it was adding two new speculative industrial buildings to its growing lineup in AllianceTexas.
