FAA expands lease at Alliance

Whether the Federal Aviation Administration’s planned expansion at AllianceTexas portends similar leasing remains to be seen.

But by leasing 14,440 square feet at the Hillwood’s development, the FAA is helping fuel a strong year for the property.

“We’ve probably leased more office space this year than any other year,” said David Pelletier, director of corporate communications with Hillwood Properties.

The past two years have seen more than 2 million square feet of office space developed or under development. Spanning 17,000 acres, AllianceTexas includes the Alliance Global Logistics hub and Alliance Town Center, as well as residential communities.

The property’s latest lease sees the FAA move its flight standards district office from its existing space at AllianceTexas to the Heritage Commons II building near Interstate 35W and Keller-Haslet Road. From that location, employees will continue handling accident reporting and aircraft permits, as well as aviation safety education and training for a 30-county area in North Texas.

About 50 employees will occupy the new space in September. But could the move signal more military expansion or leasing?

“We’re certainly open to it,” Pelletier said, calling further military leasing “hard to foresee. The FAA has been here awhile – since almost the beginning of the airport.”

The agency’s new digs will be located at 13601 North Freeway. Sharing the 114,710-square-foot building is DynCorp International.
