Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock Announces Economic Impact Study of AllianceTexas

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock today released the results of a Comptroller’s office study examining the impact of AllianceTexas on the Texas economy. AllianceTexas is the primary port of entry for the southwestern United States, bringing shipped global goods directly from the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and Houston via intermodal rail containers.

AllianceTexas is among Texas ports of entry that serve as critical gateways to global trade. Ports of entry within the state of Texas accounted for $1 trillion in international trade in 2024, according to the study, with AllianceTexas accounting for $834.6 million in trade, up 550.7 percent from 2016.

“Texas ports are more than points on a map; they’re economic engines for our state,” Hancock said on a stop of the Good for Texas Tour: Ports Edition. “AllianceTexas is a prime example of how innovation and infrastructure come together to strengthen our economy, support thousands of good jobs and keep Texas competitive on the global stage.”

AllianceTexas is one of Texas’ two intermodal logistics facilities connecting air, ground and rail, allowing businesses to take advantage of trade via all three modes of transportation.

The top export commodities by value from AllianceTexas in 2024 were machinery and mechanical supplies ($46.2 million), electric machinery and equipment ($276.6 million) and aircraft and spacecraft equipment ($116 million). The top import to the port was special classification provisions ($46.2 million) – commodities that have been returned after they have been exported, such as items used for exhibitions.
