MANVEL, Texas [Jan. 27, 2017] – Pomona, Hillwood Communities’ 1,000-acre Live SmartSM residential community, opened its new Recreational Center, named Camp Pomona, on Thursday. The opening was marked by a group jump into the Camp pool, dubbed the Pomona Plunge, to raise money for the local community.
The “Pomona Plunge” was a highlight of the grand opening that brought together city officials, realtors, builders, and school officials to celebrate all that Camp Pomona has to offer, including two resort style pools, offices for the Pomona staff, a lighted event lawn and nine cabanas.
Russ Bynum, general manager of Pomona, pledged to make the jump into the cold pool in return for a $1,000 donation from Hillwood Communities that will be used to kick-start the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at the elementary school within the Pomona community, opening this fall.
The idea generated so much traction that Fred Balda, president of Hillwood Communities, pledged to make additional donations for the more than 20 other people who took the plunge, ultimately donating $10,000. Guests included the Manvel Mayor Delores Martin, city officials, VIP partners, architects, stakeholders, realtors, builders, and school district officials.
Camp Pomona, which had its ribbon cutting ceremony in December, is the last amenity to be completed in the first phase of development. The Camp features two resort style pools and furniture, nine cabanas, a state of the art “exploration zone” and an event lawn that overlooks the bayou, serving as a gathering place for residents.
“We are excited to be a part of the younger generation’s education by raising money to get the PTO started,” Bynum said. “We hope that Camp Pomona will be an important part of the Pomona community and become a place for all residents to come together. The plunge was the perfect opportunity for our community to work together to lay the building blocks for a brighter future.”
By focusing on the well-being of residents, community connection and enrichment, convenience, and stewardship of the land, Hillwood Communities built Pomona based on its Live SmartSM principles that help to enhance quality of life for residents.
