Hillwood Communities partners with patriotic organizations to donate homes to veterans in North Texas

The partnership will deliver two high-quality, ADA-accessible homes,

including financial, family and emergency support to local veterans

DALLAS – In celebration of Independence Day and the service of America’s veterans, Hillwood Communities, a Perot company, is announcing its partnership with builders, David Weekley and Highland Homes, and the non-profit organization Building Homes for Heroes to provide homes and family support for two wounded veterans.

Hillwood donated land in its Harvest Community, a master planned development in Argyle. The builders began construction in June and expect the project will be completed in January 2017.

Hillwood chose to partner with Building Homes for Heroes, one of the fastest growing and most efficiently run veterans’ charities in the nation, because of the organization’s extensive outreach and programs offered to wounded veterans. The organization provides them with financial, family and emergency support in addition to mortgage-free housing.

One of the home recipients is Randy Nantz and his family, who currently live in Tehama Ridge in Fort Worth. At the age of 33, Nantz joined the Army immediately after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He was honored as the oldest Green Beret four years later.

“I looked at the neighborhood and I don’t have any words to describe how I feel,” said Randy. “We moved several times during my time in the military and I hope that this will be the last. Thank you to Building Homes for Heroes and all the other folks involved in making this happen. I’m very grateful.”

“It is a great privilege and an honor to be able to serve these veterans and their families,” said Angie Mastrocola, senior vice president, Hillwood Communities. “This is a small contribution to families who were ready to give up their livelihoods to protect us.”

Founder and CEO of Building Homes for Heroes Andy Pujol said, “With more than 1.5 million veterans, Texas has the second largest number of veterans in the country. We feel compelled to give back to those who so selflessly and courageously defend our country and returned home severely injured, and privileged to partner with Hillwood to create a life-changing opportunity and hope for a better future for veterans in the Harvest Community.”

More than 5,000 veterans have applied to receive a home through Building Homes for Heroes. The organization plans to complete construction of 50 homes in 2016 across the country and hopes to gift one mortgage-free home every 10 days. The organization is generously supported by many corporations, including Chase Bank, Advance Auto Parts, The Home Depot Foundation and Lowe’s.

Additional partners for the project include David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes and their vendors.
