Ross Perot, Jr. Named One of Real Estate Forum’s “65 Industry Legends And Icons”

Selection Recognizes Perot for Leadership of Hillwood, Development of Transformative AllianceTexas Project in North Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas (September 30, 2011) – Joining some of the biggest names in commercial real estate, Hillwood Chairman Ross Perot, Jr. has been selected by Real Estate Forum magazine as one of 65 “Industry Legends and Icons” honored in the publication’s 65th anniversary commemorative issue. The special anniversary edition of the magazine was published today and recognizes the figures and events having the most significant impact on the commercial real estate industry over the past 65 years.

In the issue, Perot is joined by other notable industry icons such as Trammell Crow, David Rockefeller, John Cushman III and Roger Staubach among others. The magazine selected Perot for his leadership in establishing Fort Worth Alliance Airport, the world’s first industrial airport, and in creating the Alliance Global Logistics Hub, one of the nation’s first and largest inland ports. In a Spring 2011 supply chain report, industry leader Jones Lang LaSalle stated that the Alliance Global Logistics Hub is “considered the grandfather of U.S. inland ports.” Both the airport and the Alliance Global Logistics Hub are two key components of Hillwood’s AllianceTexas, a 17,000-acre master-planned, mixed-use community that Perot envisioned and developed in north Fort Worth, beginning more than 20 years ago.

To date, AllianceTexas has had a cumulative economic impact of nearly $40 billion on the North Texas economy, creating more than 30,000 jobs and becoming a driving force in the sustained success of the Texas economy. AllianceTexas is home to leading corporate facilities and industrial operations, in addition to Alliance Town Center, one of the nation’s most successful retail projects in recent years, and both single-family and multi-family residential communities. The project is only 40 percent developed to-date.

“This ‘65 Industry Legends and Icons’ honor is a testament to Ross’ pioneering spirit and his vision for AllianceTexas,” said Mike Berry, president, Hillwood Properties. “He thinks in terms of what is going to happen in the coming decades, and frames his strategy accordingly. As a result of this visionary approach, he is constantly out in front of the market, creating valued developments that have a lasting impact. It is truly appropriate for Real Estate Forum to honor him as an industry legend.”

A native of Dallas, Perot also has strong ties to the aviation industry. He completed the first helicopter flight around the world in 1982. The 26,000-mile trip was completed in less than 30 days, crossing 26 countries and 17 seas and oceans. His helicopter, The Spirit of Texas, is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution’s Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

Perot served in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for eight and one-half years. He became chairman of the Air Force Memorial Foundation, leading a 14-year effort to build the U.S. Air Force Memorial in Washington, D.C. The Memorial, honoring the men and women of the U.S. Air Force, was dedicated to the nation in October 2006.
